A great city is made up of great neighborhoods.
It all started with downtown, then Chattanooga grew in all directions. New neighborhoods formed with beautiful homes often within walking distance of local businesses and services, schools, and churches. When the suburbs began to grow, people moved away from many historically important areas and they fell into disrepair. Busineesses closed and homes were lost. Today, quite a few of these places have revitalized into thriving, vibrant districts. Main Street and North Shore are great examples. But we could have more, so much more. What if Olde Towne Brainerd became a destination or if Glass Street was once again a thriving business district?
What is NeighborhoodNEXT?
NeighborhoodNEXT is a developing program from Preserve Chattanooga that seeks to establish and sustain strong grassroots-based revitalization efforts within Chattanooga’s traditional and historic business districts.
The goal of the program is to facilitate neighborhood residents and property owners in developing a plan that utilizes existing local assets and key collaborators.
NeighborhoodNEXT assists with “connecting the dots” that create vibrant places rooted in history, culture, and inclusivity. This may involve a focus on safety, design, economic opportunity, housing, preservation, engagement, or other needs as identified by the community at any given time.
